Vinyl Planks have become the most popular form of flooring in the recent years. Their versatility and durability have given them an added advantage over its not-so-popular contender—the hard wood flooring.

Apart from great looks, what’s great about these flooring is its ease of installation and maintenance. You just need to ensure that you clean them consistently and more so in the right manner!

How much cleaning does your vinyl plank flooring requires, l majorly depends on the traffic that the floor surface has to endure

Regular Cleaning

It is imperative to clean the floor on a daily basis. Routine cleaning of the dirt and debris will protect the floor surface against any kind of stubborn stains and scratches. Besides, cleaning the vinyl plank flooring regularly will not only maintain its natural looks but will also make it durable for a long time.

Remember a few things

  1. Brooms are the most obvious choice to clean the unfinished wood surfaces. Look for a broom that has soft bristles or a static dust mop. When using the broom, ensure that you simply glide it over the surface and not press it against the flooring. This will ensure that there are no scratches and marks on the floor.

  2. If not for the broom, you can opt to use a hardwood vacuum but remember to use it with the right floor setting. To be sure of the results, you must try vacuuming an area that is not too noticeable. If it yields satisfactory results, then you can go ahead with vacuuming the entire vinyl planks

  3. Once the floors are vacuumed, they need to be mopped with a damp cloth. Always remember to use the liquids carefully on the vinyl planks flooring as they can soak into the boards and stain them permanently.

You can also mix normal dish washing liquid with water and mop the flooring with the mixture to get excellent results. Remember to rinse the floor with a mop soaked in clean water.

Deep cleaning for long-term maintenance

While regular cleaning of the floor helps to prolong its life, deep cleaning helps to maintain its natural beauty. White vinegar, in small quantity, can actually work wonders for your vinyl planks flooring. Just add some white vinegar to half a bucket of lukewarm water. Use a soft mop and damp it to clean your stained and soiled floors, properly. In case the floor endures a high tracffic, you can also add some liquid detergent to the mixture to clean the floor.

Vinyl plank flooring: Some Dos and Don’ts

  1. Try and have a ‘No shoe rule’ in the area that has the vinyl flooring; it will help you get some long lasting results.

  2. All the furniture on the floor should be placed on felt pads. This will prevent the floor against any kinds of marks or scratches. Completely avoid using anything with rollers or castors in the area.

  3. Do not drag large and heavy items across the floor; the floors are not designed to bear the impact.

  4. Keep the products such as scrub pads, wired brushes or cleaners that are strong or abrasive, completely out of the area.

  5. In order to make the floor appear new for years to come, apply a coat of floor polish on a yearly basis. The floor polish will also help protect the Vinyl plank flooring against potential wear and tear.
