Who wouldn’t want to retain the shine and lustre of the glossy surface? It makes the surface look as good as new. For this, you would need buffing pads or polishing pads. These are a special type of pads that are designed to retain the shine and lustre of the surface. These are usually circular in shape and are used for polishing the painted surface.

Polishing pads find use in applying wax, sealant and other coatings to any surface. You can find different types of polishing pads. The materials of the polishing pad decide the final look of the surface. These pads can be made of microfiber, or wool, or both. You can also buy wool buffing pads. Materials of the polishing pads:

As we have mentioned above, there are different types of materials used for making the polishing pads. They are enlisted below:

Wool polishing pads- These are made of wool and are used for removing scratches and oxidation present on any surface. These have an abrasive texture which makes it easy to remove scratches and other marks. These are made of synthetic wool.

There are different types of wool polishing pads:

Uro-wool pads- You can identify these polishing pads by non-twisted wool knitting. With this, the probability of it coming off. Since there is no interface between wool fibres and backing material, it gives the polisher more control over the movement.

Traditional wool pads- If you are looking for hard-hitting materials for removing starches, then you must consider the conventional wool polishing pad. These are made of pure wool. It allows faster and more transfer of heat from the polisher to the surface, thus giving a better result. But it's advisable that beginners must not use this.

Hybrid wool pads- As you can decipher from the name, this type has a combination of both partially wool and partial synthetic materials. These are less aggressive, and you need to put in more effort while using this. Microfiber pads- These are the same as microfiber and have many strands woven together. These are useful for the removal of minor scratches and pain.

Foam polishing pads- The next type of material that you will find are foam pads. These are available in different sizes, shapes and colours. You can find foam polishing pads that are very soft, while there are others that have a hard texture. Based on your project need, you can choose the right type of polishing pads.

These pads are useful in removing deep scratches and dirt.

Polishing pad fastening styles

Slip-on style polishing pad- As you can understand from its name, the slip-on style polishing pad slips onto the polisher. You can add this pad to the tool the same way as you wear the socks. The cheaper type of polishers will have the slip-on type.

Hook and loop pads- Most of the polishers fall in this category. If you have just started off as a polisher, then you will use this type of polisher.
