Who is A Boilermaker?
A boilermaker is a qualified craftsperson who invent steel fabrications from plates and tubes. They install, assemble and repair boilers and other large vessels that hold liquids and gases. Boilermakers generally engage in physically demanding, dangerous work. Most of them travel to worksites and live away from home for long stretches of time.
What is A Boiler?
A boiler is a closed vessel within which a fluid is heated under the specified conditions of temperature and pressure to produce high energy steam and not necessarily boil the same. The steam generated from the same is used in various heat-related applications like water heating, power plant management and running, central heating, power generation, sanitation, cooking to name a few.
This article deals with the major problems faced in the industrial level by the boilers and the choosing of the best boilermaker for the same.
The Major Issues
Despite the strength and design of the boiler, there are some in-built issues with the boiler that leads to its improper functioning and hence has paved way to the methods for devising the solutions of the same.
Following Are Some of The Common Issues With the Boiler On an Industrial Scale: -
The Improper functioning of the burner caused due to improper cleaning or maintenance reasons and even for various other conspicuous reasons for the same. This leads to ineffective heating of the water and hence ineffective steam production that would not be able to meet or cater to the high-end uses of steam in the industry.
Combustion issues, either due to improper fuel-air mixture ratio that causes improper flame propagation and hence leads to improper burning or else due to some blockage in the combustion region. This would lead to the production of less heat for burning and hence causes the problems of combustion.
Leaks caused due to prolonged exposure of the body to high-pressure vapors of the liquid that may affect the pore structure of the body and make it develop cracks that propagate with time and lead to a serious industrial accident in the future. This is an error that needs a high attention as if overlooked, it may cause a catastrophic industrial failure for which there would hardly be any solution.
Issues with the control system of the boiler, that regulates the working of the same and ensures that all of its parameters remain within the safe working limits. But however improper working in the system can also lead to improper functioning of the boiler and hence bring a substantial damage to the body of the boiler
Corrosion of the boiler body, partly due to the moisture that it handles on a regular basis and partly due to the formation of the scales in the interior region. These scales are formed mostly due to the impurities in the water that is heated up or due to deposition of excessive of Mg and Ca ions within the walls.
The Solution
The above problems need the expertise of skilled and efficient boilermaker who not only have a good knowledge on the working of the boiler but can also detect the potential problems it might face, based on their rich industrial experience. Hence, apart from just this parameter, there are also factors like good market value, high levels of customer service and easy repairing of the products that also define a good boilermaker.
Hence any major industrial corporation dealing with boilers must employ the services of those who not only have good designing knowledge but more importantly have the knowledge of detecting any of the above-mentioned problems much beforehand and work effectively to solve the same.
